Description

Experience Grandeur

For a grander experience, join our Grand River Canoe Club for the first installment of our Heritage River Adventure Series. Designated in 1994 as Canada's seventeenth Heritage River, the Grand River, as it flows through the heartland of Southern Ontario, has been an important aspect of the province's natural and human history. Every few weeks we will get together to spend a day paddling a different section of the Grand, finishing in the fall by reaching the waters of Lake Erie and returning to the Luna Project for a rewarding barbecue to boot. All are welcome to join us for the individual sections (space is limited) but club members who complete the entire run with us will receive a complementary Canoe Club t-shirt... and bragging rights, of course. Although the Grand is suitable for novice paddlers, some degree of stamina will be required for the longer days (7-8 hours).

Designated as a Canadian Heritage River, the Grand has always been an important feature of Southern Ontario's history and landscape. As it winds its way along its 290 kilometer course, the Grand River and its tributaries drain the largest watershed in this part of the province. The area is home to a great diversity of plant and animal life, including many Carolinian species which flourish here. For our trips we have chosen a stretch that passes through the spectacular Grand River Forest between Cambridge and Paris; perfect for beginner and intermediate canoe enthusiasts and sure to be an educational experience for everyone.
