Description
Paddle the Grand is perfect for beginner or intermediate canoe enthusiasts looking to develop their skills and confidence on the water. After a quick introduction to paddling techniques and canoe safety, we'll pair-up and head down the Grand River. From Cambridge to Paris we'll paddle a 20km stretch of river, learn about its cultural and natural history, play a few canoe games, and raft-up for a floating lunch. This run is an extension of our half-day trip. For this trip we start further up stream in Cambridge where the river gently braids it's way past a series of small islands. Keep your eyes open for a variety of wildlife including osprey, the rare green heron, and even deer that come to the banks. At Glen Morris we'll stop for a break. From here the river starts to wind and pick up it's pace, cutting through the Galt-Paris moraines. No matter where your interest lies, Paddle the Grand is sure to be an educational experience for all outdoor enthusiasts.

Sample Itinerary
09:30: Meet at the Paris portage to sign in and arrange transport up to Cambridge.
10:15: In Cambridge, a brief discussion will be conducted by your guide(s) to review safe canoeing procedures and proper paddling techniques and to give a breakdown of the day's itinerary.
10:30: Once one the water, we just go with the flow. The gentle current will help us along as we paddle through Canada's unique and beautiful Carolinian Forest. We'll have the opportunity to discuss some of the special features of the region and even stop to explore some of the natural and historical sites that make this area so important.
12:00: About halfway along, we'll pull up to shore in the community of Glen Morris for lunch in the shade and a chance to stretch the legs.
12:30: When our bellies are full, we'll pack up and continue downstream where the river valley narrows and the current picks up its pace.
01:00: After a reminder from your guide(s) about river safety, we'll splish and splash through a couple of short stretches of easy moving water and even, time permitting, stop for a refreshing swim in the current.
01:45: All cooled off, we'll raft our boats together and let the river do the work, giving us a chance to dry off in the sun and enjoy the scenery before picking up our paddles for the final stretch into Paris.
03:30: Our take-out is at the portage where we left our vehicles. Those interested are invited to join us at the pub for a few more laughs to finish off the day.
This trip can be altered in many ways. This is just a sample itinerary; the actual schedule is reflective of the needs of the group. If more time is needed for exploration, or hiking, your guide may choose to alter the itinerary slightly
