Description

Many of the challenges we have overcome as a species were done so by looking to nature for clues. By closely examining the adaptations of local wildlife species, students will gain an awareness of, and an appreciation for, the many adaptations we have borrowed from the natural world. Students will also be encouraged to return to nature in search of resolutions for present day challenges.

Program Rates

Half Day - $12.50/student
3 hour program
minimum payment of $225.00/class

Full Day - $22.50/student
6 hour program
minimum payment of $387.00/class

  • A full three hour interactive program for each half day booked

We have designed many curriculum linked programs to help students make direct hands on connection with material. Each of our enthusiastic environmental educators will work with a small group of students in order to minimize our impact on the land and maximize one on one teaching that occurs. Programs can also be custom built to meet specific needs of individual classes.

The LUNA Project is an alternative learning center that provides an opportunity for students of all ages to come and make a connection to their environment, to their peers, and to themselves.

Each program is designed to meet the Ontario Curriculum and to supplement and enrich the learning that students are doing in the regular classroom.

Through everything we do at LUNA we try to minimize our impact on the natural environment. Some examples of how we achieve this include:

  • Small groups with a low teacher to student ratio (10:1).
  • Encouraging Leave-no-Trace interaction with the center. This means that students should bring litterless lunches and take everything that they bring with them to LUNA home. We would like students to leave the natural environment as it is to preserve existing ecosystems (not taking home souvenirs!).
  • Create a trail system with the environment in mind as to not disrupt sensitive areas.
  • Create energy for the site using a renewable, off-grid system including a wind turbine and a solar panel.
  • Provide water for drinking and cooking that is harvested from rainwater.
