The Yurt Experience

With a wide variety of snowshoe styles and landscapes at your disposal, the Yurt Experience serves as an introduction to the basics of snowshoeing. Join us as we explore the forests and fields of Southern Ontario's rolling landscape, discover fascinating winter ecology tidbits, and sip hot chocolate around a glowing fire. Located within close proximity to major city centers, the Yurt Experience provides a semi-remote environment for you to brush-up on your snowshoeing techniques.

The Yurt Experience also includes a brief sustainability tour that will introduce you to low-impact building techniques, alternative energy sources, responsible waste management practices, and water conservation techniques.

Sample Itinerary
10:00: Upon arriving, you'll be greeted in the parking area by your guide(s).
10:15: After a quick meet and greet, your guide(s) will introduce you to a few snowshoeing basics and then outfit you with your snowshoes.
10:30: From here the adventure begins. You'll enter a mature hardwood forest and, following a snowcovered trail, be led through a variety of interesting landscapes including a transitional pine forest and a tangled hawthorn grove. You'll be provided with countless opportunities to discover the special characteristics of the winter world. Your guide(s) will make frequent pauses to point out the richness of the varied landscapes and to explain the fascinating subtleties of the area's ecology.12:00 - Eventually you'll loop back to the LUNA Project itself. Just in time for lunch and a chance to warm up by the fire.
12:30: Before you go, we'll talk quickly about low-impact living and give you a tour of the buildings, the off-grid power system, and the other various projects that are always underway.
01:00: A short walk back along the trail will take you back to the parking area.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS DEPOSIT All reservations are based upon a first come first served basis. A 25% deposit is required to secure your reservation; the balance is too paid in full 14 days prior to departure date. If a reservation is to be made within 14 days of the departure date, full payment is required. Upon receipt of your deposit, you will receive trip confirmation and all pre-departure information. CANCELLATION A full refund, less a $100.00 administration fee, will be granted if cancellations are received within 14 days or more prior to departure date. Due to trip preparation fees, such as permits, staff training, and food, there will be no refund for cancellations less than 14 days prior to departure, unless otherwise agreed to, and authorized by The LUNA Project. For your convenience, you may change the date of your trip 14 days prior to departure without penalty. The LUNA Project, reserves the right to reschedule or cancel any trip should undesirable conditions prohibit travel. In the unlikely event of such a cancellation, all participants will be refunded in full. If a participant is late or fails to arrive for a confirmed course, clinic, or, trip, as outlined in the trip confirmation form, no refund or credit will be given. MEDICAL EXPENSES Any expense or cost incurred by use of medical care, or evacuation, is solely the responsibility of the participant (if under 18 years of age, the responsibility of the signed parent/guardian). All participants who are not Canadian citizens should have reimbursement insurance. Should a participant need to be sent home or evacuated during a program, all expenses are to be paid by the participant. All insurance costs are the responsibility of the participant. HEALTH AND LIABILITY All activities offered through The LUNA Project, are physically demanding. Participants should be in good physical health, any health issues or concerns should be fully disclosed on the participants’ medical form. CONFIDENTIALITY All information provided to The LUNA Project, by the participant is for office use only. The LUNA Project does not provide this information in any way to outside agencies.
