Ground Breaking of Walden Pond PDF Print E-mail

Ground breaking for the construction of Walden Pond(a name that was suggested by a Laurier professor) began this week on the morning of December 03rd.  I was extremely excited to see the arrival of the excavator and the bulldozer, but also a little nervous that I was going against my original promise to myself, that I wouldn't alter the land in any drastic way. I do believe a bull dozer and an excavator is rather drastic measure. I do however see the merits in the construction as this is a joint project with funding help through the Brant Resource Stewardship Network, that this will greatly improve the natural environment and help to improve the overall wildlife habitat and diversity.  I was only planning on a small pond as the clay was needed for the construction of the grass waterway, but when the guys started digging, this has turned into a 300' long giant. There's no doubt in my mind that this will do wonders for wildlife diversity on the property, I just need to keep all in check to make sure that my once peaceful oasis doesn't turn into a three ring circus.

# Kath 2009-01-28 13:57 I stood at the edge of Walden Pond today, and even though it is still in the process of being born, it brought me peace, and renewed my slightly tattered faith. The pond, and the wetland, complement and are consistent with the spirit of the property. This is the right thing to do here, and thank you so much for being willing to do it. Quote
